Friends on the Other Side - a History of Witchdokta miniatures

Ho there, ArcFans!

It's Friday the 13th, and on this most spooky of days I have some good luck for you! Yet another instalment of our 'Month of Miniatures'

And this Friday's offering is the heinous trickster that is the new Witchdokta for ArcWorlde: Second Edition!

For those of you who are well read on your Warploque lore, this Witchdokta is actually the 4th one I have released, but the 5th one I've sculpted!

I came up with the idea of an Orc Witch Doctor many many moons ago, probably around 2009. Back in the days before Warploque, when I was just doing it for the pure fun of it! And to distract myself from my GCSEs :D

Here was my first attempt. This is an old photo, and I still have this unfinished model somewhere at my parent's house in Yorkshire!

When I first started Warploque, wayyyyy back in 2010 at school, I released one of my first characters sculpted in metal a few months later in 2011. Once again I returned to my Voodoo Orc idea - Behold, Papa Shamadu!

The Green (I was working with Super Sculpey and Terracotta Milliput at the time)

The Metal cast -

And finally, the painted version!

I really liked this model, but as with all Pre-ArcWorlde stuff, I couldn't give them away!

The next attempt was a model that was included in one of my earliest attempts at crowdfunding, the 'Cast up the Bayourks' project on Ulule in 2012!

In this project I did a new take on Papa Shamadu, this time removing the mask and giving the hobbyist a glimpse at his lovely boyish good-looks.

Once again the project didn't do too well. So let's fast forward a bit more...

The 'Birth of ArcWorlde' in 2013 was a magical time for me. Magical, but bloody stressful! I did a hell of a lot of sculpting in preparation for the Kickstarter, and one of the things I did was to base my 'official ArcWorlde' Witchdokta, now the proud Mage of the Bayourk faction, on Papa Shamadu 2. I even used a cast of the model and sculpted on top of it! This version of the Witchdokta was funded with the rest of the initial ArcWorlde range, and can still be found on the webstore.

And 5 years later (where the hell has it gone?!) I'm releasing my most current version for the upcoming ArcWorlde 2nd Edition! It's crazy to think that it's been twice the amount of time from the Kickstarter to now than it was from the first Witchdokta, madness!

To celebrate the release of this new miniature, possibly one of my favourites to date, I'm once again awarding FREE POSTAGE to everyone who orders on the Warploque Miniatures web store, if the order is over £20

Well, that was a little trip down memory lane, eh? I had to do some real delving to find some of those pictures! Which is a difficult thing to do when you hate your past work (and your past graphic design skills *shudder*) as much as I do! But hopefully you guys enjoyed the read.

And to see us out, the lyrics from the character's song that inspired me to create my most recent edition - 'Friends on the Other Side' by Dr Facilier from Princess and the Frog! I do enjoy bumping up these word counts with culture.

Don't you disrespect me little man Don't you derogate or deride You're in my world now, not your world And I got friends on the other side (He's got friends on the other side)

That's and echo gentleman Just a little something we have here in Louisiana A little parlor trick, don't worry

Sit down at my table, put your mind at ease If you relax it will enable me to do anything I please I can read your future, I can change it 'round some too I look deep into your heart and soul

You do have have a soul, don't you, Lawrence? Make your wildest dreams come true

I got voodoo, I got voodoo I got things I didn't even try And I got friends on the other side (He's got friends on the other side)

The cards, the cards, the cards will tell The past, the present and the future as well The cards, the cards, just take three Take a little trip into your future with me

Now you, young man are from across the sea You come from two long lines of royalty I'm a royal myself on my mother's side Your lifestyle's high but your funds are low You need to marry a little honey who's daddy got dough

Mom and dad cut you off, huh, playboy?

Now y'all better get hitched but hitching ties you down You just want to be free, hop from place to place But freedom takes green

It's the green, it's the green, it's the green you need And when I look into your future it's the green that I see

On you little man, I don't want wanna waste much time You've been pushed 'round all your life You've been pushed 'round by your mother And your sister and your brother And if you was married you'd be pushed 'round by your wife

But in your future the you I see Is exactly the man you always wanted to be

Shake my hand, come on boys Won't you shake a poor sinner's hand?

Yes, are you ready? (Are you ready?) Are you ready?

Transformation central Transformation central Transformation central Transformation central

Transformafication central, can you feel it? You're changing, you're changing, you're changing alright I hope you're satisfied, but if you ain't don't blame me You can blame my friends on the other side

You got what you wanted What you want's what you get
